This is cool. My friend Sarah told me about a local farm in her area that drops off seasonal, fresh produce to a drop off location where she can pick it up on designated dates. Then I read about it in Body and Soul magazine so I have to try it. The farms will either allow you to harvest your own produce or collect it from a drop off location. You get a variety of fresh, locally grown, seasonal organic food often for less than the price you’d normally pay for organic produce at the store. Plus you’re supporting your community and receiving seasonal produce which is much fresher and sometimes completely unique to your region. You can find a local farm at their web site. Go to LocalHarvest and type in your zip code.
Their spiel: The freshest, healthiest, most flavorful organic food is what’s grown closest to you. Use our website to find farmers’ markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area, where you can buy produce, grass-fed meats, and many other goodies. Enjoy!
