Don’t Let Your Adult Child Settle for Less in Their Career

We encourage the ones we love to go after what it is they love, to truly fulfill their dreams. And we encourage them not to take NO for an answer in that quest.

This is especially true when they are searching for a career that they are passionate about, one that truly drives them!
Talk to your adult son or daughter about their current career or their career search, and ask them...when it comes to their dream career, do they take ‘no’ for an answer? Ask them these questions...

• Do you go to work every day doing something you love – or are you stuck trying to learn to love what you’re doing?
• Are you passionate about the work you are doing – or are you passionately opposed to their current job situation?

If your son or daughter is just ‘getting by’ but is yearning for more in their career, remind them that they possess the power to find the career they love. They do not just have to settle for a less-than-satisfying career – there are other opportunities out there, if they are willing to put in a little effort!
Offer these suggestions to your adult son or daughter in going after that dream career:

• Encourage them to live in the present and consider their current goals, and not consider their past expectations and experiences.
• Remind them to listen to their inner voices, avoiding outside pressures, like media, family expectations and other inconsistent influences.
• Have them discard preconceived notions about being unable to find a career they love, and proceed in their career search with a positive outlook.

With these tools you can help your adult son or daughter investigate and answer …what is it that is getting in the way of them having a career that they truly love and sparks their inner passion? Life is too short for your young adult to settle into a career that doesn’t work for them. Help your adult son or daughter learn not to say ‘no’ to their career goals but to truly stand up and move forward with their dreams.
