On a Personal Note
Under construction in more ways than one
My due date of Dec 26 is getting closer! We found out he's a boy and are very excited. Here are some recent photos from our baby shower of me and my friend Liz (showing off her bump as well), and me and my hubby Frank (making a silly face):

We are renovating our second story to make room for the little guy. Can you say down to the wire? Our project will be complete just in time for his arrival. (Fingers crossed that he doesn't come early (grin.) I've heard of people starting construction during pregnancy and it's a little crazy I have to say. As construction projects go, ours is moving along pretty smoothly. However, issues come up and the project is past our deadline. I'm realizing that I need to be flexible and go with the flow; otherwise I'll make myself crazy. I have to remember: when things are out of our control, what we can control is our reaction to them.

Life Lessons
Tis the season to reflect, celebrate and give thanks
Fall is here and with it Thanksgiving for those of you in the states. It's the time of year when we give thanks for what we are grateful for in our lives and celebrate what we've accomplished.
If you're like me, when you achieve a goal you take brief moment to relish in it before quickly moving on to the next goal, or issue that needs to be fixed. While looking forward is important, it is equally important to consider where you've been.
When you're giving thanks this year take some quality time savor the good things in your life. It doesn't have to be extravagant to be special. Go out for a nice dinner, have a glass of wine, do something special you normally don't do. Set aside time to make it meaningful. Decide specifically how and what you want to celebrate. Resist the temptation to rush through your "Holiday To Do List" and be sure to carve out time to celebrate and give thanks.

Need balance? Stop teetering by setting boundaries
Life can feel a little crazy when you're in the midst of a change like a career transition. If you have one foot in your current job and the other foot has stepped into dreaming about your future career, you may get overwhelmed. This happens, especially in times of transition. The trick is to set boundaries for yourself as a way to manage your time and curb the feelings of overwhelm. Here are some tips to staying in balance during your transition by setting boundaries:
- Technology: Separate your job search tasks from your personal tasks.
- For example, if you've signed onto Career Builder to post your resume, or joined a new association to search their job boards, you could create a special email address for this purpose alone. This way, your career pursuits can be kept separate from your daily responsibilities, helping you to feel less distracted and stressed.
- Keep your career-related information in a separate folder on your computer.
- Time: Establishing boundaries with your time can be another way to maintain balance during your transition. For instance, you can make a commitment to not to think about anything career-related after 7:30 p.m. and reserve a time slot for your career search tasks. Your commitment could be, "I will work on my career transition from 5:30-7:30 at least twice a week."
- Personal: Establish personal goals each week to make sure you set aside time to take care of yourself. Create a weekly habits checklist for exercise, spending time with friends/family, or your hobbies and write down what you will commit to doing each week -- no excuses.
By setting and maintaining boundaries between your career goals, everyday responsibilities, and leisure pursuits, you will feel more in-control of your life, balanced and at peace with yourself and the process of career change. And let me know if you need help, career change is much easier to manage with the support of a coach!
