Note and Inspirational Quote
Happy Halloween! (Ok I’m a little early but I love Halloween
so I get excited early.)
Fall is here and winter just around the corner, so my "Food for Thought"
is about beating the winter blues. My winter
blues are less of an issue now since I
moved to Atlanta from Chicago but regardless
of where you live, I think we all tend
to go into hibernation mode a little bit.
So I’ve mentioned a tip
to help keep you active.

Quote: This is my favorite quote so I’m surprised
I haven’t
yet included it in my e-zine. I love taking
risks and feel a little empty or off if
I haven’t taken one
in a while.
“The greatest risk in life is not taking one.” Where
are you hiding out in your comfort zone?
How might you take just one step towards
greater career, and life, fulfillment?
My best regards,

Food for Thought Beat the winter blues
Yes, winter’s coming. It’s not my favorite season. I
love summer-the longer days, warm weather
and sunshine. (I was born in Florida so
it's not surprising ;-)) Living in Chicago,
I tended to go into hibernation mode in
the winter and become a TV-watching couch
potato after work. Then one year I decided
to make a list of things I wanted to do
for the winter- - things that would get
me out of the house and keep me active.
It helped me combat the winter blues a
little bit, and it just might help you
too. What do you want to do this winter?
To get started, make a list of those things
you’ve
been “meaning
to do:" movies or plays you want to see,
art galleries or museums you’ve been wanting to visit, social
activities with friends, workshops or classes
that have sparked your interest. The options
are endless! Sure, there’s nothing
wrong with hibernating a little. It’s natural. But making a
list of the things you want to do, and
picking one or two from the list each week,
can help you stay more balanced and inspired
during the winter months. Have fun with
it!
Career Corner Tips
for choosing a more fulfilling career path
Choosing a career path that’s right for you is a process. Here’s
a tip that can help you get started.
The secret to finding the right job is this: take the first step
Last month in this column I talked about
how to identify your passion. (In case
you missed it, you can read last month’s issue here.)
This month’s tip is
related to the passion idea and the inspirational
quote I highlighted earlier: just take
a step in the right direction. Sounds
simple, and it can be. This is something
I always encourage my clients to do.
Interestingly enough, I read about this
same idea in a recent article from the
Motivational
Appraisal of Personal Potential
(MAPP) e-zine I receive.
Here’s the
gist: Many of us want to find the perfect
job and we want to know every single
step we need to take, in sequence, to
land it. Often, we won’t even take the first step until we
have the full path mapped out. Somehow
it feels safer that way, right? Sound
familiar? I think it’s
human nature, and unfortunately it usually
doesn’t
work that neatly. If I was able to outline
a complete “one-size-fits-all” road
map for finding the perfect job for you,
I would be writing this newsletter from
the comfort of my own private island
right now ;-)
So when my clients want to know all of the steps before getting started,
I suggest that we first start putting the puzzle together piece by
piece. Once an idea begins to form, we can start moving in that direction.
For you, I suggest following your gut instinct, take a step in a direction
that feels right, and allow yourself the freedom to explore options
as you move forward. You’ll figure it out, I promise. The MAPP
article states that you take a step in a direction and things become
clearer, then you take another step and things become even clearer,
and so on until you find your dream job. It is a process, a journey.
For some it’s short, for others it may take a little longer.
It just depends on your starting point and our willingness to keep
stepping. So, I encourage you to start now: what one step can you
take today that will move you forward towards your perfect job?
Contact me at hallie@halliecrawford.com. I’m here to help you
find that perfect job, determine what steps to take, and help you
make it happen. Here’s what some of my clients have to say about
working with me: “Hallie helped me get to where I am now. I
can’t tell you how fabulous of a coach she is!...“I have
a renewed sense of confidence, a tangible goal and a plan… My
progress has been rewarding. I'm getting paying work, I'm feeling
a sense of accomplishment, and I'm enjoying it! I cannot recommend
her [Hallie] highly enough.”

"What’s in it for me?” you ask. “Why would
I want to hire you as my coach?” Here’s the short
answer: direction, clarity, focus, making
it happen.
The long answer is: a job you enjoy that is fulfilling and rewarding,
getting unstuck, leaving uncertainty and frustration about your career
direction behind. No more job hopping, no more wondering what you
want to be when you grow up, no more not believing you can make it
happen.
