It’s the last month of summer, can you believe it? A few weeks ago, I realized that we are already halfway through the year. Then I realized that I have half the year to achieve the goals I set out to achieve for 2007. Uh oh, better get going!
In this issue’s Life Lessons, I touch on how to approach the rest of your year from a positive perspective to help you achieve the things you set out to do. For those of you who want to make a career change in 2007 but still don’t know what path to pursue, check out my Career Seekers Teleclass in September.
Finally, for those of you singles out there who want to know how to successfully navigate your career transition solo, I have a special discount for you on the first run of my new book Doing it Solo.
See you next month! Here’s to having a career you love,

On a Personal Note
I have an exciting announcement to make – I am pregnant! About 5 months along. My hubby and I are excited but I gotta tell ya, the physical changes have taken me by surprise. Sometimes I find it difficult to stay awake, and this past week I have been incredibly spacey. These days it’s not a question of if I take a nap but how many naps I take – chuckle, chuckle. It’s certainly a journey. I’ll keep you posted as things progress.
Life Lessons
I’ve changed the name of this column from Food for Thought since these are personal topics as opposed to career topics. Just to mix things up and keep you on your toes.
"What if the rest of your year was the best of your year?"
2007 is more than halfway over - wow. I like the question above because it incorporates Law of Attraction principles; seeing the glass as half full instead of half empty.
Try this exercise to help you stay focused for the rest of the year:
If the rest of 2007 was the best of the year, what would that look like for you? What would you want to happen? Make a list of those things, and envision what you want to create for the rest of 2007. (And by the way, keep in mind there’s plenty of time. That will help you see these goals from a perspective of abundance and flow.)

Career Corner
Choosing
a career path that's right for
you is a process. Here's a tip that can
help you get started.
Tip of the Month: Career Icebreaker: Uncovering your natural talents and abilities
Are you looking to make a career change or break into a new field? Before you make a major shift in your career, it's a good idea to take some time out for self-exploration. When was the last time you took stock of your personal strengths?
Most of us don’t think much about our strengths. We tend to focus on our weaknesses and how to overcome them. And I have learned that we typically tend to downplay our strengths, assuming that everyone can do the same things we can because they come so easily to us. Not so!
Try the following brainstorm exercise, meant to help you pull out the best parts of your professional personality.
- As a child, what types of activities did you enjoy most and excel at?
- When asked to volunteer for a group project, whether it's on the job, with your church, school, or other organization, in which areas do you typically offer your assistance? Where do other people want your help?
- Think back to all the memorable moments in your life where you were congratulated or thanked profusely for your efforts. What did you do at that time to warrant recognition?

Hallie Recommends
The Pathfinder by Nicholas Lore. New York: Fireside, 1998.
Last year my sister used this book in conjunction with career coaching sessions to help her in her career search. She needed assistance discovering her dream career (just like I did when I was her age!) and found it very helpful. Lore gives you practical advice as well as inspiration to pursue a career that fits your personality. I highly recommend it, especially in conjunction with a career coaching session or two. So many clients have come to me saying “I’ve read all the career books, but I still don’t know what I want to do.” Frequently, these books are just one tool to use to define your ideal career. Talking to someone like a coach to help you put what you’ve learned into a larger context, can be essential to completing the picture. Good luck! And contact me if you need help.
