On a Personal Note

I came home from my ski vacation last month so refreshed and relaxed that everything just flowed in my life – at least for a couple of days. Then I got caught up in the rush again. You know how it feels – you rush to leave for vacation and then when you get back, you rush to catch up. Sometimes it feels like we need a vacation after our vacation!

I’ve found that when I get caught up in the daily busy-ness of life, I tend to stop listening to that inner voice that guides and helps me make good decisions … my intuition. So I’ve been thinking of ways to maintain that sense of relaxation I felt when I first returned home.

One way is to consciously maintain a slower pace and keep my to-do list short. Another way is to make sure I get out of the office to do the things I love -- like horseback riding.

What can you do differently next time you return from vacation to maintain that relaxed, in-the-flow feeling?

Food for Thought

Ignite Your Intuition!

We’ve all heard the saying, “Stop and smell the roses,” but how many of us actually take the time to do just that?

If you’re like me, you get so caught up in ‘life’ that you don’t take the time to slow down, relax and, most importantly, listen to your intuition.

How many times have you gotten yourself into a bind because you didn’t listen to that still small voice? Your intuition is nearly always accurate, so you can often save yourself a lot of grief by paying more attention to what it’s telling you.

Here are some tips on how to ignite your intuition:

  • If something keeps grabbing your attention or crossing your path, it’s a sign. Take notice and look closer.

  • Believe more in the powers of your intuition and it will talk to you more.

  • Slow down. When you’re rushing around, you tend to ignore those gut feelings that something is off or needs to change.

I Kick Ass T-shirts

It was in a coaching session I had with Katie, one of my clients, that the inspiration for the “I Kick Ass” T-shirt was born. I told her she deserved a gold star for her progress towards her goals and she said “I kick ass!” We decided this phrase needed to be made into a fun T-shirt.

When my dad heard about them, he said he definitely wanted one, and here’s a picture of him wearing his “I Kick Ass” T-shirt.

(When the mailman delivered our supply, he said he wanted one too!)

Do you “kick ass?” If so, you should be wearing one of these fantastic T-shirts!

And if you need a little inspiration to meet your goals, the “I Kick Ass” T-shirt is for you too!

Career Corner

Choosing a career path that's right for you is a process. Here's a tip that can help you get started.

Tip of the Month: Why it's important to use your intuition in your career search

I’d like to share a story that happened to me several years ago during a job interview. The whole time I was being interviewed, I kept thinking to myself “I’m going to have to wear pantyhose in this job.” (I hate pantyhose! I did not want to have to wear pantyhose!)

I was also thinking, “This person has a personality that I'm not sure would be a fit for me. I think it would be a challenge to work for her. " I had a gut sense that it wasn't a fit.

So the interview ended and I was offered the job. What do you think I did? I accepted.

Wrong decision. The position turned out to be a disaster.

Do you see what happened here? By not listening to my intuition, I paid the consequences.

Have you ever had an experience like this -- where you took a job simply because it was offered? You may have heard that voice inside saying, “this might not be a fit,” but you accepted the position anyway.

I think many of us have. We made a decision without paying attention to our intuition and we paid for our mistake.

So when you hear that voice inside -- listen to it!

For example, say you’re browsing the internet looking at job openings. You come across something that you believe is a good fit, but as you read the job description, you get an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach. Stop right there and move on! Don’t linger. Look for something that feels right.

Always use your intuition in your job search. Let it tell you when something’s not right and when it is. Trust it. You won’t regret it.
